Prof MPS Sethusa
B (Rad) Diag, BDS (Medunsa), PDD (Orthodontics) (Stellenbosch), M Dent (Orthodontics) (University of Limpopo), Course in Management principles for First-Line managers (Unisa), P G Dip (Health Education) (UCT).

Prof Peter Sethusa started his career as a radiographer, and after working for 5 years as a radiographer, he trained to become a dentist. During training he was fascinated and gained interest in the orthodontic module. After serving for 6 years as a general dentist, he obtained an opportunity to train and specialize in orthodontist. After qualifying as an orthodontist in 2006, he immediately assumed a full-time specialist post at Medunsa/University of Limpopo now Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University, where he started as Acting HOD till he became Professor in the Department. He has 16 scientific peer reviewed publications and has presented in many local and international congresses.

He served in all local training institutions as external examiner and as a panelist of the HPCSA accreditation team. He bowed out of a 16-year full-time academic career at the end of January 2023, but continues to assist post-graduate students on a pro bono basis during his spare time and is also involved in establishing an international Post-Graduate Diploma in Cleft Lip and Palate. His 16-year academic career culminated in training and graduating numerous undergraduate students in Dentistry and Oral hygiene, 12 Post-graduate Diplomates, 14 Master’s students and 16 Orthodontists.  During his first 11 years of academia, he also worked and managed part-time practices before focusing on academics after becoming Professor.
 
Since his resignation from full-time academia in January 2023, he joined a modern and well managed Pretoria Smile Orthodontic Private Clinics on Mondays to Wednesdays, led and managed by Prof Emad Ghabrial. Both specialists bring and share a wealth of knowledge, skills and experience to their patients.
In September 2024, he opened his own practice in Secunda and Montana, which he serves from Wednesdays to Fridays and two Saturdays a month, whilst still serving at Pretoria Smile Clinics.
