oRTHODONTIC SERVICE

Here are some of the Orthodontic Services offered

Habit breakers:

Oral habits such as thumb sucking, lip chewing etc that continue for long need to be stopped before tooth displacement and or jaw distortions occur. Speech problems may also result from these habits. A good analysis and prescription of how to manage these will be done.

Phase 1 Orthodontic Treatment:

This is commonly called early treatment and is offered from the age of 8 to 10 years. It is offered to those children who have certain challenges/ problems which require early intervention. Challenges may include abnormal jaw relationships, abnormal protrusion, position and alignment of teeth, as well as bad oral habits. The dentist and orthodontist will advise when necessary.

Phase 2 Orthodontic Treatment:

This is the definitive treatment offered when all or almost all permanent teeth have erupted (age 11 onwards). A specific treatment plan based on your situation will be made and discussed with you.  Challenges may include abnormal jaw relationships, abnormal position, number and alignment of teeth. Whilst in most cases teeth can be aligned without extractions of teeth, in severely crowded teeth, extractions may be prescribed.

Abnormal jaw positions require special methods for correction and the orthodontist will discuss these with you if you have such a challenge.

Adult orthodontic treatment:

Orthodontic treatment is not limited to young patients only. Adult patients who never had orthodontic treatment and those who had relapse and require revision are welcome to be treated. We offer various treatment methods/options based on availability and affordability.

Orthognathic treatment:

Severe jaw problems require a combination of orthodontic treatment and jaw surgery: orthodontic treatment to align teeth and jaw surgery to correct the jaw disproportion.  These challenges will be communicated to you and a consultation with the surgeon will be arranged. The surgeon will examine and also give you advise/information regarding the surgical procedure needed to correct the problem.

Retainers:

Following treatment, teeth must be maintained in the corrected position with the aid of retainers. Should you lose your retainers, you are advised to have them replaced as soon as possible before relapse takes place. We also encourage three, 6 monthly visits after removal of braces, where we monitor the retention process. A nominal fee which will be communicated to you will be charged.

Mouth Guards:

If you are involved in contact sport, you are advised to have custom made mouth guards made to protect you against serious injury to teeth and the head, including prevention of brain concussion. Mouth guards can be made for those who are not, and for those who are on orthodontic treatment.
Abnormal jaw positions require special methods for correction and the orthodontist will discuss these with you if you have such a challenge.

 Tooth Bleaching

There are various causes of stained teeth and sometimes bleaching may be recommended.
Home bleaching kits and office bleaching is available. The doctor will examine your teeth and advise on a suitable method to use.
